Small Changing rooms
This blog will discuss small changing rooms, the challenges involved and how to overcome them.
This project was part of a development for a new swimming pool, entertaining space, gymnasium, cinema and accommodation together with a small office space.
There wasn’t a lot of space for two changing rooms a toilet and a plant room so we had to be very inventive in the way we designed the changing rooms. This was a prestigious development for a private client so although the rooms were small they had to be beautifully formed.
We started to list all the items that needed to be included seating, wash hand basin, shower, towel storage, hair dryer, clothes hanging and mirror.
We then space planned each changing room to be a mirror image of the other. The shower is a large walk in space the full depth of the room and fairly generous in proportions, divided by a fixed glass partition. The basin is a white bowl set on a bespoke unit with drawer below where the hair dryer is located a large mirror with ECI above adds to the feeling of space.
To the side of this is a small niche for toiletries. Following this wall around we have positioned a full height seating area constructed in fumed oak, this has discrete chrome hooks to hang clothes this unit also incorporates towel storage for rolled towels.
It would be natural to feel as this was a small space it should be lined in a light colour. We went against this thinking and decided to line walls and floor in Marron Emperador Marble and treat the timber in a dark fumed oak. We put a border of white marble inset in the floor to emphasize the floor area of the complete room.
We kept the lighting to a minimal including some concealed behind lowered ceiling soffits, to give the room atmospher. These are very complex little rooms and we are very pleased with the way they work.
